Michelle Cavo, PA-CMichelle Cavo, PA-CCo-Founder & Chief Executive Officer · Certified Physician Assistant
Read Michelle’s bio

Michelle started Pounds Transformation with two patients at her kitchen table. She is a busy mom of three. She had struggled with weight gain herself, and no one could tell her why. The medical system gave her little help. So she built the practice she had needed. One that treats the root causes of weight gain with compassion and science.

She has fought her own weight her whole life, even while eating well and exercising. That is what drives her work with patients. Pounds Transformation was built on her belief that food is medicine.

  • Physician Assistant program and Master’s Degree in Public Health, Nova Southeastern University
  • Certified by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians
  • Fifteen years as a Physician Assistant in primary care

She is now Chief Executive Officer, alongside her husband, Dr. Charlie Cavo.

Serving Connecticut patients together since 2013.

"I was referred to the West Hartford location and I haven't looked back. My registered dietitian has been with me every step of the way. I'm down 120 pounds and now weigh 180 at age 50. I genuinely didn't think that was possible."

"I spent three years going doctor to doctor with no answers. Dr. Cavo, Liz, and the staff actually sat down and looked at what was going on. Almost 30 pounds down, and someone is finally treating the actual problem."

Your First Appointment

Where You Start Getting Yourself Back

One appointment. Real answers, a real plan, and the first proof that the person you want to be is still within reach.

1
You see specialists in metabolic medicine

You will see a team trained to treat the conditions that drive weight gain. There is no judgment. There are no lectures. Just people who understand, and who help you see that you were never the problem.

2
You start with tests that explain what is going on

Your insulin, blood sugar, thyroid, cortisol, hormones, and vitamin D all get checked. The results make the picture clear. Patients finally understand why it has been so hard. It was never about willpower. For many, the results point to a metabolic issue that can be treated.

3
You get a plan built for you

Your plan is based on your health, your goals, and what you need. This is not a program. This is a medical practice treating medical conditions.

Common Questions

Have a Quick Question?

Do I need a referral to get started?
No referral needed. Reach out through the form above or call the location nearest you, and we'll take it from there.
What actually happens at the first appointment?
You'll sit down with a provider and tell your whole story. What you've tried, what worked for a while, what quietly stopped. Comprehensive bloodwork shows what is actually going on inside your body. Then your plan is built around your results and your life. No lectures, no judgment, and nothing off a template.
Do you take insurance?
We do. Every plan is different, though, so the only way to know what applies to you is a quick call. Reach out and get a straight answer.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the care that's right for you. There's no cost to find out if you're a fit. Reach out and we'll give you a real, straight answer for your situation before you commit to anything.
Do you prescribe GLP medication?
When it's medically appropriate, GLP medication can be part of your plan. That's a decision your physician makes based on your bloodwork, your history, and your goals. It's one tool we use when it's right for you, not a one-size-fits-all prescription.
Do I have to take medication?
No. Medication is one tool, not the plan. It starts with bloodwork, to understand why your body has been fighting you. Then that is what gets treated. If a GLP makes sense for you, your physician will talk it through with you first. If it doesn't, we don't use it.
I've tried other programs. Is this different?
Most patients here have. That is exactly why they came. This does not start with a meal plan. It starts with your bloodwork. If no one has looked at your metabolism, hormones, or insulin, there's a good chance nobody has treated the actual problem yet.
