Connecticut · Since 2013

It started at a kitchen table, with two patients.

Pounds Transformation exists because the woman who built it could not get an answer for her own weight. From anyone.

Dr. Charlie Cavo and Michelle Cavo, PA-C, in the kitchen
2013
Michelle was a busy mother of three who kept gaining weight, and could not find a single doctor willing to look past the obvious.

What she got instead was the advice everyone gets. Eat less. Move more. Try harder.

She was already doing all of it. The scale kept climbing anyway.

So she went and got the training herself. A certificate in obesity medicine, and with it the thing nobody had told her: weight is tied to hormones, metabolism, stress, sleep, and a dozen mechanisms that have nothing to do with willpower. She had never been the problem. Nobody had looked properly.

She started treating patients at her kitchen table. Two of them. The approach was simple, and at the time unusual. Find the actual cause. Run the bloodwork. Treat what shows up.

Word moved the way it does when something works. Her husband Charlie, an OB/GYN who had watched the same problem walk through his own practice for years, joined her.

What has not changed is the part that started it. Someone sits down, listens to the whole story, and takes it seriously.

In her words

The part most people never get told.

Michelle on why the standard advice keeps failing, and what is actually going on underneath a weight problem that will not move.

How we practice

Four things that have held since the kitchen table.

01Test first
02Treat the cause
03Real people, every time
04Built to last
01

Test first

We start with comprehensive metabolic bloodwork, not a meal plan. Insulin, thyroid, cortisol, glucose, vitamin D. Most patients have never had these run together, and it is usually where the real answer has been hiding.

02

Treat the cause

Weight is rarely the whole problem. We look at what sits underneath it, including blood pressure, blood sugar and hormonal issues, because treating those is often what finally makes the weight move.

03

Real people, every time

Our phones are answered by our own staff. Your provider knows your name and your chart. There is no chatbot between you and the person treating you.

04

Built to last

Anyone can take weight off for a season. The plan you leave with is built around your body and your actual life, and we stay with you while it holds.
