Responsibilities
  • Responsible for monitoring authorizations via insurance portals, EMR and pharmacies.
  • Connects with insurance companies to obtain needed information for authorization submissions, and files appeals as needed for denials.
  • Clear communication and documentation in EMR with updates on authorizations and denials. Updates providers routinely.
  • Prepares patient charts for providers by maintaining all necessary orders prior to visit.
  • Accurately performs and documents patient vitals, reconcile medications, and obtain lab work as requested by medical provider.
  • Maintains operations by following policies, procedures and code of conduct.
  • Answers phones, checks voicemail and monitors inboxes.
  • Contributes to team effort by working well and communicating effectively with co-workers, managers, patients, insurance companies and pharmacies.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized office appearance.
  • Other general medical assistant duties.
Qualifications
  • Exceptional customer service skills- is a must!
  • Previous experience in a medical assistant role preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
  • Familiarity with medical software systems (Athena)
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft applications
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing.
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving.
Experience:
  • Medical Office Experience: 1 year (Required)
  • EMR Systems: 1 year (Required)
  • Vital Signs Experience: 1 year (Required)
  • 1+ year experience and knowledge of insurance and prior authorizations
License/Certification:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
Work Location:
  • Southington but travel to West Hartford or Glastonbury may be required.
Expected hours:
  • 40 per week
